Morning Thoughts: Pandemic Driving
This morning, as I drove to work through the first winter storm of the year, I had cause to appreciate the responsible behavior of the other drivers on the road. It was dark, snow was falling, and everyone was driving courteously and at reduced speeds. If you've been through a winter as a driver, you'll know this isn't something you can always expect, but I've generally observed that the first storm of the year tends to encourage good driving.
Unfortunately, that doesn't hold true as the season progresses. It seems that the longer the winter goes on, the less patience drivers have for others who still drive cautiously in the snow, and the more determined they become to get where they're going as fast as they can, conditions and potential consequences notwithstanding.
I couldn't help but make a mental comparison to another shared experience of peril requiring community-minded responses to safely navigate that we've all been going through lately.
