How Books Get Finished

So in scripture study tonight we're reading from Omni and trying to explain how the sacred records got passed down through the generations. I ask my kids to consider that they are writing a book for their whole lives and when they die it's still not finished, but they don't ask anyone else to finish it for them. Does the book ever get finished?
